The General Dental Council is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone while also ensuring we adhere to The Public Sector Bodies Accessibility Regulations 2018.

The information below applies to www.gdc-uk.org.

We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

What are we doing?

To help us make the The General Dental Council website a positive place for everyone, we've been using the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities, and user friendly for everyone.

  • the web address (URL) of the content
  • your name and email address
  • the format you need, for example, audio CD, braille, BSL or large print, accessible PDF

Compliance status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA.

The GDC website is currently Level AA compliant.

The General Dental Council is committed to making its websites accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

PDFs and other documents

Some of our PDF and Word documents relate to essential services we provide to the public. We've either made these fully accessible or replaced them with accessible HTML pages.

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018, if they’re not essential to providing our services

Any new PDF or Word documents we publish that are essential to providing services to the public will meet accessibility standards.

Videos and audio content

Some of our videos may not have a text description and some audio content may not have a transcript, however this does not relate to any essential services that we provide to the public, and is therefore exempt from the accessibility regulations.
