Who we regulate

We are the UK professional regulator of the whole dental team.

We regulate all dentists and dental care professionals (DCPs), which include:

• Clinical dental technicians.
• Dental hygienists.
• Dental nurses.
• Dental technicians.
• Dental therapists.
• Orthodontic therapists.

We keep an up to date register of all dental professionals.

Those who join our register need to meet our standards for registration.

You can search our register on this site.

Anybody who wants to work in the UK as a dentist or DCP must be registered with us.

Specialists

We hold 13 specialist lists.

Dentists can work in a particular branch of dentistry, such as oral surgery or orthodontics, but only those on a specialist lists can call themselves a ‘specialist’ in a particular area. ​
